Graduate School

The aim of the graduate school is to nurture advanced research abilities and to develop a higher degree of knowledge for specialized occupations. The master's program is two-years and the Doctoral program is three-years. Both programs are coeducational. In order to meet the requirement of continuing education, the graduate school has a special educational system for working people who wish to study earnestly at the graduate school level.

Graduate School of Literature

Japanese Language and Literature Major (Master's Program) ★○
Japanese Language and Literature Major (Doctoral Program) ○
In this major, the fields of Japanese literature and Japanese language focus on basic and wide-ranging studies of subjects from literary classics to contemporary literature. In addition, taking advantage of the geographical location of Mukogawa Women's University being in the Hanshin area, this major promotes cooperative research targeting the regional culture of the Hanshin area as a common study subject of the whole major. Meetings for the presentation of study results are frequently held, and these study results are published in the graduate school journal “Kahoyotori” and the “Series of Regional Culture Studies.”
English Language and Literature Major (Master's Program) ★○
English Language and Literature Major (Doctoral Program) ○
Students taking this major are trained to become competent future researchers who will be able to respond to the needs of the times in English linguistics, English literature, American literature, and in all aspects of English and American culture. The course also provides appropriate training to junior-high and high school teacher applicants, and many outstanding schoolteachers have been trained every year. Detailed research guidance by native speakers who are at the forefront of research in this field is also provided.
Education Major (Master's Program)
The education major consists of three study areas: foundation of education; theory of educational methods and child care; and theory of educational administration. Various problems concerning education, which modern society is confronting, such as educational problems of children and ideal methods of school education, are studied. The course trains highly skilled researchers to be able to solve many educational problems. It is also aimed at training schoolteachers (kindergarten and elementary school teachers who have master's degrees and specialized certificates) who have advanced professional educational skills so that they can act as leaders at actual education locations.
Clinical Psychology Major (Master's Program)
This major consists of three research areas, namely, comparative development, clinical psychology, and socio-clinical psychology, and is aimed at training future professionals in this field. The major has been designated a first-class graduate study program by the Japanese Certification Board for Clinical Psychologists; therefore, students completing this major are qualified to take the licensure examination for clinical psychologists without the one or two years of work experience.

Administration Food Sciences and Nutrition Major

Administration Food Sciences and Nutrition Major
  (Doctoral Program)
This major offers two courses: food nutrition and nutrition management. The focus of the food nutrition course is food science, cooking and food processing, and dietetics. The aim of the course is to train researchers, developers, and nutritional representatives (NRs), focusing on experimental studies. The focus of the nutrition management course is clinical nutrition, health management, and care welfare. The aim of this course is to train highly skilled nationally registered dietitians who can assume important roles in nutrition care management at actual job sites in the health and medical field.
Human Environmental Sciences Major (Master's Program) ★
Human Environmental Sciences Major (Doctoral Program)
This major targets the study of a wide range of subjects on the environment related to clothes and housing. The study area is generally divided into two classifications: life cultural information and life environment. The following six sub-areas, i.e., life culture, life behavior, life information, life environment, life materials, and environmental design, are unique and provide new studies which are promoted in each sub-area.

In this major, the educational method of professional schools in Europe and the U.S. are adapted, wherein all students in the master's program work on a common assignment. In the six-year curriculum, including four years of study in the undergraduate course of the Department of Architecture, architects and architectural engineers who have advance knowledge, skills, high sensitivity, historical sense of values, and sense of ethics and who are well recognized internationally are trained. The doctoral program aims to train students to acquire more advanced and wide-ranging knowledge and skills in this field. This program also prepares architects and researchers to act as leaders in their chosen field.

Medical Pharmacy Major (Master's Program) ★○
The Department of Pharmacy includes the pharmacy major and the medical pharmacy major. In the pharmacy major, students carry out basic pharmaceutical studies; thereby contributing to greater academic development. The aim of the medical pharmacy major is to develop practical research ability of future pharmacists. The students enrolled in the medical pharmacy major are required to take practical training in hospitals for six months. The department also provides evening classes so that graduate school students can take courses while working at medical institutions.

Graduate School of Clinical Education

Clinical Education Major (Doctoral Program) ◎
This major provides evening graduate school courses for schoolteachers and working people who are involved in humanitarian aid. The aim of this course is to train professionals and researchers who can provide interdisciplinary support in terms of educational, psychological and welfare assistance to people experiencing problems such as bullying, truancy, hikikomori (seclusion syndrome), delinquency, learning disorders (LD), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and to advance their skills.
