How to Use Libraries

1. Notices

  • When you enter the libraries, be sure to carry your M.I.C. (Mukogawa ID Card) with you. You can access to all three libraries including the Storage Room in the Multi-Media (MM) Hall with your M.I.C.
    *
    M.I.C.s are issued as ID cards to students of Mukogawa Women’s University and Junior College, its affiliated Junior and Senior High School, and its faculty and staff members. For the members of Meisho-kai alumnae association, students of Open college, and students of Pharmacists course, the library card called “CanPass” is to be issued upon application..
  • Keep silent. In the Central Library, the designated area of the basement, the reference book area on the first floor, and 3〜4F are the Silent zone. Please refrain from talking.
  • Eating and drinking are permitted ONLY in 地階ラウンジ(the Basement Lounge)、1階ライブラリー・カフェ(the Library Cafe on the first floor)、1階マルチメディア・ラウンジ(the Multi-Media Lounge on the first floor)、2階グローバル・スタジオ(the Global Studio on the second floor)
  • Keep your belongings under control and keep valuables in your possession
  • When you use library materials in the library, please return those to its original place
  • Please come to the circulation counter to check out materials
  • When you caused any damages to the library materials, you will be asked to replace it

2. Entering and Leaving Libraries

Put your M.I.C. on the card reader located at the  Entrance/Exit Gate to let the gate bar fling open.
If an alarm rings, please follow the instruction of the library staff.
At Koshien Hall Branch Library, please show your M.I.C. to the library staff.

3. Use of the computers in the Libraries

When you use the information search terminal, please turn it on and log in with your mukogawa-u.ac.jp ID and Password. When you finish, be sure to shut it down properly. M.I.C. card is required for printing.
"Print Points" are available upon request with additional charge.  


When you use a Mac computer in the Global Studio on the second floor in the Central Library, you need to borrow computer peripherals. Please come to the circulation counter on the first floor with your M.I.C..
When using a multilingual computer, please turn on devices and select a language. Your data is initialized when you shut down the computer. If you need your data, please save it in your USB.
For printing, plug in your USB with data to the information search terminals on the first and fifth floors, or print-only terminals on the sixth floor.

The use of library computers by those without mukogawa-u.ac.jp ID is restricted to the ones designated for Online Catalog (OPAC) and multilingual computers in the Global Studio on the second floor. No printing is offered on them.

4. Laptop computers / Tablet type devices Loan

Laptop computers and tablet devices are available at the Circulation Counter in the Central Library. Projectors, DVD drives, and Blu-ray Disc Players are available at the Multi-media Lounge in the Central Library. You need to have your own M.I.C. card to checkout. All devices are within the Central Library use only. Printers are available on the first floor, the fifth floor, and the sixth floor (need your M.I.C.). There is a fixed Projector in each Learning Commons on the sixth floor.  

5. Wireless LAN access

Wireless internet access with laptop computers and tablets (with internal wireless LAN function) is available in all areas of the libraries. You can ask ICT Support Desk in the Central Library and the circulation counters in Pharmaceutical Sciences Branch Library and Koshien Hall Branch Library for more information.

6. Web Databases / Electronic Journals

Useful Web Databases and Electronic Journals for searching articles and theses are introduced on the "情報検索(information retrieval)" at the MWU Library web page.

7. E-Mail

If you have registered your mukogawa-u.ac.jp e-mail address, you can receive various information from the libraries such as availability of requested books, overdue notices and delivery notices of inter-library loan etc.

8. My Library

 "My Library" offers customized services to each client. Log in with your mukogawa-u.ac.jp ID and password to:

  • check your status of your current borrowing and their due date
  • request an extension of due dates of borrowed materials
  • check the history of your borrowing
  • make reservations for books currently borrowed by other person, and have notices when those are available
  • request books from other libraries on campus, and have notices when they are ready
  • request the interlibrary loan and the copy of the periodical articles from other universities and institutions
  • register a new e-mail address in addition to the one for MWU-net
  • receive notification when new material of your interest is added
  • bookmark and store your OPAC search results

How to Find Books and Other Materials

  • All books in the libraries are sorted out according to the Nippon Decimal Classification and are given a call number. Books have a label on the spine, which shows where they are shelved (Picture books, maps, musical scores and books on Qualifications follow a different rule of classification and labeling. Please go to the Circulation Counter or Reference Desk for details).
  • To search for what you need, look up information on the Online Catalog (OPAC) on a computer. Write down their details (title, call number, site, etc) and go to the floor and shelves shown.

    In the Central Library, many of newly acquired books are shelved in the Reading Room for Reference Books on the first floor and the Reading Room on the third to fourth floors.
    *
    In the Central Library, newly acquired magazines(of current and previous fiscal year) are located at the新着雑誌架 (shelves of newly arrived magazines), and technical journals are located at the集密雑誌架(movable bookshelves) in the basement.
    *
    Periodicals are arranged according to the Japanese syllabary or alphabets (Article such as "a" and "the" are not counted).
    *
    When the location says 「展示中(on display) 」 on the Online Catalog (OPAC), the materials are located near the entrance on the first floor in the Central library.

When you have overdue items, you cannot check out other items (items can be checked out from the next day after you return the overdue ones).

Pharmaceutical Sciences Branch Library second floor, State examination problems collection

If the Location says 薬学2階国家試験問題集(the second floor, Pharmaceutical, State examination problems collection) on the Online Catalog(OPAC), you can find those books on the second floor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Branch Library.

The due date is the next opening day of the day you checked out.

The following materials cannot be taken out:

Dictionaries and other reference books, and workbooks with a label of 禁帯出(non-circulating) or 館内(within the library).

The Online Catalog (OPAC) shows the status of these materials as
禁帯出(non-circulating). Reference materials which are shelved on the first floor of the Central Library cannot be checked out, although they do not have a label to that effect.

Theses(Doctoral, Master's, Graduation) : No checking-out and copying allowed. For use in library only

Those theses are in the Multi-Media Lounge on the first floor in the Central Library. Ask the staff member at the desk for the use. Theses cannot be searched with OPAC. Please check 「博士論文・修士論文」題目一覧(The file of title of theses Doctor's and Master's)and 「卒業論文」題目一覧(The file of title of graduation theses). Go to the Reference Desk during its service hours.

Audio-visual materials

Materials of which 配架場所(location) is shown as 臨床教育学研究科図書室(Graduate School of Clinical Education Library)、
教育研究所(Institute of Education) and 建築学科図書資料室(Department of Architecture Library) on the OPAC

   

These materials are being checked out to the respective institutes. Please visit the institutes with your M.I.C.. You cannot check those out, but Copying is available. The Materials of which the location is shown as "臨床教育学研究科図書室(Graduate School of Clinical Education Library)" and "教育研究所(Institute of Education)" can be checked out by graduate students, graduate research students, faculty and stuff members. For details of open hours, please ask at the Circulation Counter.

Microforms

The Online Catalog (OPAC) shows the location of microfilm and microfiche as 中央5階マイクロ資料(The Central Library, the fifth floor, microform) . Please go to the main counter of the Central Library to request the use of materials and the microform reader.  Requests are accepted between 8:30 and 21:00. For those not familiar with the reading machine, until 17:00, Library staff members can show you how to use it.

These materials are located on the fourth floor. These are only for faculty use.
If students wish to use those books, they are required their faculty's request and escort.

3. Returns

  • Books can be returned to any of the Circulation Counters (Central, Pharmaceutical and Kamikoshien) and also the loan period can be renewed there.

4. Renewals

  • The due date of the materials you have borrowed can be extended for an additional 14 days in either of the two ways as follows:

    Go to any of the three library counters with your M.I.C. and the materials you have borrowed.
    A
    Go to the web page of 「マイライブラリ(My Library) , open 「貸出・予約状況照会(Borrowing・Reservation status)」,and click  「延長(renewal)」 of the materials  you wish to renew.
  • Your request for extension is not accepted in the following cases:

    The due date of the materials have already expired
    A
    Other clients have reserved that material
    B
    You have other overdue materials

5. Reservation

  • Reservation for the materials currently borrowed can be made from any networked computer on campus.
  • When you search on the Online Catalog (OPAC) and the materials are marked either 貸出中(on loan), 取置中(on hold), 予約(reserved), you can reserve the materials through マイライブラリ (My Library). Press the button of 予約(reservation) , input your mukogawa-u.ac.jp ID and password to go to マイライブラリ(My Library).
  • When the materials become available, you will be notified by mukogawa-u.ac.jp mail. You can also check the status on マイライブラリ(My Library).
  • Materials remain reserved for seven days after the mail notification.

6. Loan from the Central, Pharmaceutical and Kamikoshien Libraries

  • From any networked computer on campus, you can request a loan for materials held in libraries other than yours.
    *
    Some materials located in the Licenses sections on the fifth floor in Central Library and second floor in Pharmaceutical Sciences Branch, large-size books cannot be ordered.
  • When you search on the Online Catalog (OPAC) and find the materials, you can reserve and specify the library to receive the materials.  Press the button of 予約(reservation) , input your mukogawa-u.ac.jp ID and password to go to the page of マイライブラリ(My Library), and specify the library to receive the materials.
    *
    The library of your choice must be different from the one where the materials are shelved.
    *
    Visiting clients have a priority over your request for loan.
  • When the materials become available at the library of your choice the status on OPAC is 取置中(on hold, you will be notified by mukogawa-u.ac.jp mail. You can also check the status on マイライブラリ(My Library).
  • Materials remain reserved for seven days after the mail notification.

7. Copy Service

  • Self-copying can be made with the machines located on the basement, the first and the sixth floor of the Central Library, the Multi-Media (MM) Building Stack Room, the second floor of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Library, and Kamikoshien Library. Copying is allowed only for library-owned books (no more than one-half of the volume) and periodicals (excluding the latest issue).
    Use the Print-Point of M.I.C.(Monochrome copy, one side: 10 points, Color copy, one side: 30 points)
    Use cash(only in the Central Library.)[Monochrome copy is \10 per sheet, Color copyis \50 per sheet.]

Coin-operated copy machines are located only on the first floor in the Central Library.
  • Fill out the form 文献複写申込票(Application Form for Copying Literature).

All the responsibility in relation to copyright must be taken by clients.

Dissertations, masters' theses and graduation theses cannot be copied.
  • Materials in the Multi-Media (MM) Building Stack Room can be copied by clients themselves.
    When requested, copies can be made by the library staff members. You can pick up those copies at the library.
  • Order service between the Central Library, Pharmaceutical Sciences Library, and Kamikoshien Library are available.

    At the Central Library, place an order at the Reference Desk.

8. Penalties

  • When you damage or lose a library material in use, you are asked to replace it with a new one or cover the sum of the equivalent value.

Audio-Visual Materials

Central Library

Materials in the Multi-Media Lounge are viewed and browsed only in the Multi-Media Lounge. Please go to the desk at the Multi-Media Lounge with your M.I.C.. Internet resources with sound can be also accessed in the lounge

Pharmaceutical Sciences Library

Please go to the counter with your M.I.C. and the Audio-Visual materials you would like to use. Headphones are handed to you at the counter.

Materials in The Storage Room in the Multi-Media (MM) Building

The Storage room is located on the underground floor in the Multi-Media (MM) building.
There are periodicals published before 1992 (some after 2006), graduation theses, and old books.

Before visiting, please confirm the information on the Online Catalog (OPAC) that the materials are shelved in the Storage.

Reading, Book Loans, Returns and Renewals

  • Visit the room with your M.I.C..
  • Fill out the order form with a book title, periodical title, volume, issue, publication year, pages. As for graduation theses, fill out a 卒業論文閲覧申込票 (graduation theses order form). They are to be picked up by library staff members and handed to you.
    *
    Even in a case of reading only, the order form must be filled out.
  • Books and periodicals in this room can be checked out, and those are counted as the number of items you can borrow from the library.
    *
    Graduation theses are for reading only, not to be checked out.
  • Materials borrowed from the room must be returned to its counter.

Reference Service

The library staff members will assist you to use the libraries, search materials, and investigate various matters.
Reference Service is available at the Reference Desk in the Central Library and the circulation counter in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Library. Feel free to ask anything you wish to know.

Community Room

You can use the Community Room on the first floor of the Central Library for meetings or changing clothes for job searching. Prior application is not required. After using the room,  please be sure to put things back to the original state.

Learning Commons

You may use Learning Commons, Study Rooms, Multicultural Community Room in the Central Library for your study, class, and Group work. Please check the reservation status of the rooms on the Digital Signage screen. When there are no reservations, you can use the rooms freely.

Personal Study Rooms

Personal Study Rooms

You can use the Personal Study Rooms on the third and fourth floor of the Central Library. Prior application is not required. Since you cannot lock the room, take care of your valuables.

How to Use Libraries of Other Institutions

When materials you need are not available in our libraries, you can obtain them through the following ways. Please note that it may take a few days before your requests are duly fulfilled. To fill out an application form, go to the Reference Desk of the Central Library or the counter of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Library and Kamikoshien Library.

1. Visiting other Libraries with a Letter of Introduction (for Reading and Photocopying)

Fill out an application form to have a letter of introduction issued.
(The Central Library, Pharmaceutical Sciences Library , and Kamikoshien Library has its own form of Application for Interlibrary Loan respectively)

2. Photocopying

Fill out an application form so that we can obtain photocopies for you. Please note the actual cost including the postage is to be paid by you.
(The Central Library, Pharmaceutical Sciences Library, and Kamikoshien Library has its own form of Application for Interlibrary Loan respectively).

3. Interlibrary Loans

Fill out an application form which is available at the Central Library, Pharmaceutical Sciences Library, and Kamikoshien Library so that we can borrow books for you (Upon receipt, they are to be used within the libraries and not to be checked out). Please note the actual cost including the return postage is to be paid by you (The Central Library, Pharmaceutical Sciences Library, and Kamikoshien Library has its own form of Application for Interlibrary Loan respectively).

As for "2. Photocopying" and "3. Interlibrary Loans," you can place an order through online services. You will be prompted to offer an ID information for マイライブラリ(My library), which is equivalent to mukogawa-u.ac.jp ID and password. Then you specify either the Central Library or the Pharmaceutical Sciences Library or Kamikoshien Library as the place where you hope to receivethe materials. MWU-net mail will notify you of their arrival. Also, order status can be checked using MyLibrary.

For Alumnae and Parents

Besides our students, we offer library services to the alumnae and parents whose children go to Mukogawa Women’s University and Junior College, its affiliated Junior and Senior High School, and Kindergarten.

Use of large-format color printer

We have a large-format color printer that is able to print up to B0-size (1,030 X 1,456 mm). You can use it in the Multi-Media Lounge on the first floor of Central Library.
Reservation is required one day prior to use. Please fill out an application form in the Multimedia Lounge on the first floor of Central Library.

Student needs to acquire approval stamp from their academic advisor to use large-format color printer for class, research seminar or other like activities. For other student activities, please use printers in the Student Affairs Section.

For printing, we recommend you to create data with PowerPoint.
