Abstract:
@Wayfinding behavior was explored by experiments using four plans
of mazes. Judging from the observed behavior patterns and reasons of choosing
paths, fore characteristics of wayfinding behavior were derived: memory
of paths, strategy of choosing paths, tendency to keep proceeding or to
turn round, and tendency to go straight or toturn frequently. Strategy
of choosing paths changes according to the change of situations: meeting
dead ends, returning to the passed places, proceeding to the reverse direction
of the destination, and no clear change of situations.

Abstract:
@In this study, a computer simulation model for wayfinding of pedestrians
in mazes has been developed from the result of experiments at two mazes
. The observed pedestrian movemment in experiments to choose paths was
translated into the choice of coners in the model. The simulation successfully
simulated most of the behavior patterns of pedestrans observed in experiments
in mazes, so the algorithm of the model can be regarded as adequate and
available.

Abstract:
@In this study, awayffinding experiment in a maze was undertaken,
where each pedestirian drew the imaginary path which he was trying to take
at the starting point and at each point where his path image changed. Since
path images corresponded to the actual path s which were taken by pedestrians
can be regarded as walking on the basis of their path images in their mind.
according to the tendencies of change of images, the simulatin model for
wayfinding behaveor was update ,and avaailability of the model was acknowledged
by the inspection of the simulation example.
