The graduate students get experiences of the ongoing design works in "Practice in Architectural Design" with the staffs of the “Architecture and Urban Design Studio, Mukogawa Women's university.” Students designed mosaic tiles which were placed on the floor beside the pillars in the platforms. The 300 mm x 300 mm square sheets of the mosaic tiles made by the students were used in the construction. |

The motifs of the mosaics are a sailing boat coming and going through Seto Inland Sea as abstraction of distant views, a fish swimming through a wave as intermediate views and a beachcomber lapping onto the shore as near views. The students designed patterns of waves and boats arranged on the 20mm square grids, referring to the "The Great Wave of Kanagawa", which is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai Katsushika. The patterns were combined and arranged to represent landscapes of the sea from the Naruo beach. The 13 mosaic sheets of different patterns were created. |
