Primarily the most peculiar thing to an area should be its very indigenous character. We sought for succession and development of the traditional local technology, culture, and history, with application of advanced construction technology. Echizen iridescent tile covers the walls of the dome, reinforced concrete walls of the 1st and 2nd floors, and the precast panels of the 3rd floor. Designers, Industrial Technology Center of Fukui Prefecture, and the Association of Tile Industry of Fukui Prefecture developed this tile applying the traditional technology of Echizen Kawara. The tile is 20cm by 15cm and the color is Aka-Sabi(red-rust) which was recreated from the color of ancient tile. Traditional Echizen Kawara is preferred for roofs to sustain the snow in Fukui. The traditional technology of clay, glazing, firing, and shape is developed and applied to the walls of the dome.
